The Department of Psychiatry is a large and complex department, which relies heavily upon the University of Melbourne and several public and private health networks for the provision of much of its networks and communications. The maintenance and progression of open and friendly working IT relationships with each partner organisation is crucial to the Department's continued research and teaching success. ICT fullfills a dual role within the Department, by not only providing support for current business needs, but also through the leadership and application of new technology for future needs.
To this end the Department's ICT strategy can be summarised as follows: To enable the Department to use the most appropriate forms of information and communication technology, for the advancement of research, knowledge and teaching in the field of Psychiatry.
