Web Site
The Department's web site is hosted by the central University web server group (CWIS). This is achieved through the use of a virtual web server' hosting service, which enables the Department to have its own unique sub-domain name (ie. psychiatry.unimelb.edu.au). The benefits of such an arrangement are listed below:
- Zero hosting cost
- Server redundancy (24 x 7 availability)
- Nightly backups
- Located on core University network
- Site indexing for University wide searching
- Generation of site statistics
For simplicity the Department's web site directory structure closely follows its organisation structure, whereby sections and units are nested within directories associated with each health network. Due to historic reasons and the diverse nature of the Department, some large units within the Department maintain their own separate web sites. Links to these sites can found embedded within the Psychiatry web site, thus enabling seamless browsing across the whole Department.
Overall co-ordination, planning and maintenance of the central Department web site rests with the Department IT Manager. Maintenance of lower level web pages is performed by the respective central administrative staff. However, it is the responsibility of all Departmental staff to ensure the information contained within their respective sections is up to date and revelevant.
