Music Therapy for Psychiatric Patients

The Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre is a collaborator in the Music Therapy project with the Faculty of Music at The University of Melbourne, Sunshine Hospital and University of Bergen, Germany.

Aims of the Music Therapy Project

The aims of this study are:

  • To examine whether resource-oriented music therapy helps psychiatric patients with low motivation for therapy to improve negative symptoms and other health-related outcomes.
  • To determine whether the therapy helps the patients to improve in the following secondary outcomes:
  • Provided that significant effects are found: To determine whether general outcomes are mediated by specific outcomes.
