The department is the largest of its type in Australia and is involved in many activities associated with mental health in Melbourne, Victoria and Australia, as well as overseas. In addition to its comprehensive under-graduate and post-graduate study programs, it conducts cutting edge research and is very involved with the leadership and policy development of clinical services.
