Dr Katherine Manson, BSc (Hons), PhD

Bioinformatics Research Fellow

Dr Katherine Manson is currently employed as a bioinformatics post-doctoral research fellow with the MNC. This appointment follows a post-doctoral position with the Department of Physics at the University of Melbourne, where Katherine led the Australian Virtual Observatory project – aiming to provide a uniform interface for astrophysics researchers to access the large, complex and distributed data archives of Australian observatories and research facilities.

The skills Katherine gained in “databasing the stars” have been put to good use at the MNC, where she has developed a sophisticated and flexible data model to describe the MNC’s comprehensive and complex collection of behavioural, cognitive, neuropsychological, clinical and imaging data. Katherine is currently focussing on: developing a platform to manage and preserve the MNC’s data collections; facilitating efficient search and access to data; enabling the future re-use of data sets; and linking the MNC data archive with other clinical and research data bases.
