Dr Murat Yücel BA (Hons) Clinical PhD (Neuropsychology)
Senior Research Fellow
Dr Yücel holds a joint appointment as a Senior Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer by the MNC & the Substance Use Research and Recovery Focussed (SURRF) Program at ORYGEN Research Centre and The University of Melbourne. His work involves neurobiological and cognitive-affective neuroscience research into psychiatric disorders, as well as drug and alcohol abuse. Dr Yücel also has professional training in clinical neuropsychology and has been working in the field of neuropsychiatry for a number of years. His work has been well-received internationally, as is evident by his publications in leading international journals and presentations at national and international conferences. Dr Yücel has won awards at major international conferences including a Young Scientist Award at the 10th Biennial Winter Workshop on Schizophrenia in Davos, Switzerland as well as a Young Investigator Award at the 11th Biennial Meeting, International Congress on Schizophrenia Research, Colorado, USA.
He is also the member of several national and international organisations, registration boards and research committees. He is on the North Western Mental Health Research & Ethics Committee and on the editorial board of Acta Neuropsychiatrica.
In 2008 Dr Murat Yücel was awarded a three year NHMRC Career Development Award to investigate the dysfunction in key brain networks: Implications for psychiatric and substance use disorders. This research is developing Dr Yücel's area in addiction and subtance abuse.
