Adolescent Development Study

The Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre is a collaborator in the Adolescent Development Study with ORYGEN Research Centre.

About the ADS

The study will investigate one of the key underlying causes of the onset of mental disorder in adolescence, namely difficulties with regulating moods and emotions.  Many of the mental disorders that are highly prevalent in adolescence, namely depression, anxiety and substance use, are all associated with clear problems in regulating moods and emotions.  The study is longitudinal, meaning that some of the participants will be asked to participate again over their teenage years.  This will enable us to understand how symptoms of mental disorder have emerged in our sample, and to explore the early signs of these disorders in relation to emotional regulation.   We will be collecting information from a large cohort of grade six school children across Melbourne.  In each primary school randomly chosen to participate, each grade six student within that school will be asked to be involved in the study.
