General Resources
The Department provides the following resources for postgraduate research students where practicable:
- Induction sessions as required
- 24 hour building access where possible
- Approximately 25 desks across the Department (combination of individual offices, individual desks and communal research areas)
- Lockable cupboard or locker
- Bookshelves
- Photocopying
- Printing
- Telephone access
- Dial-in access (UniMelb) as required
- Inter-library loans
- Funding towards the presentation of papers at conferences
IT Resources
The resourcing of IT for the use by the Department's postgraduate research students is a difficult and complicated issue. Many of the Department's postgraduate students are also staff who for example, are completing their PhD as part of their research activities, or performing part-time clinical or teaching activities, whilst studying part-time. Depending on the staff members' position, the IT equipment which they have access to, is either funded by their own research funds, or provided centrally by the Department, or provided by a Hospital Network, or quite often a combination of the all of the above. As such, this 'staff' IT equipment is generally not counted as part of the Department's postgraduate IT equipment, as given below.
